Excel 2016: Formatting: The Alignment Group

Objectives

       Align and rotate text

 

Note: Before doing any formatting commands, the cells must be selected (highlighted) first. Use the fat white plus sign to select cells.

 

Great tip: To copy an existing format, use the format painter button on the Home tab.

 

 

Text alignment and rotation

To achieve this:

Do this:

Center text across columns

Select the cells you wish to merge and center. Then:

       Click on the Home tab.

       In the Alignment group, click on the Merge and Center button:

Align or rotate text in a cell

Select the cells whose alignment/rotation you want to change. Then:

       Click on the Home tab.

       In the Alignment group, click on the Orientation button.

 

       Five common choices are given. Click on the one you want.

       If none of the listed choices works, click on the Format Cell Alignment choice at the bottom. In the Orientation box on the right, you can choose any degree of rotation that you want. SNAGHTML564bf35

Turn on the "wrap text" feature (to make words continue on the next line)

Select the cells for which you want to turn the "wrap text" feature on. Then:

       Click on the Home tab.

       In the Alignment group, click on the Wrap Text button
