Using the Briar Cliff Network

To log on to the Briar Cliff network:

·         On all of the BCU labs, you should see a logon screen. If not, click on the Start button (lower left corner):

·         Then click on the Power button. Then click on Restart:

 

·         You may have to click on Other User. Enter your user name (usually last name followed by first initial). Press the Tab key(or click in the Password text box).

·         Enter your password (Student ID number, not including leading zeros). Note that when entering passwords, asterisks will appear on the screen in place of your actual keystrokes.

·         Press the Enter key (or click on OK).

To get Windows help:

·         Click on the Windows desktop (background).

·         Press F1.

To change your password:

·         Do you have a secure password? If not, you might want to change your password.

·         While holding down the Ctrl and Alt keys, press the Delete key to open the Windows Security options.

·         Click on the Change a Password… button.

·         Enter your current password in the Old Password text box.

·         Enter your new password in the New Password text box. Passwords are case-sensitive.

·         Re-enter your new password in the Confirm New Password text box.

·         Click on the OK button.

To interrupt (terminate) a program that is not responding:

·         While holding down the Ctrl and Alt keys, press the Delete key to open the Windows Security options.

·         Click on the Start Task Manager button.

·         On the Processes tab, click on the program that you wish to interrupt. (If you want to see all of the processes/programs that are running on your computer, click on the More Details button at the bottom of the window.)

·         Click on the End Task button.

·         Click on the "Close" button (the "X" in the upper-right corner of the "Windows Task Manager" dialog box).

To connect to the public drive:

·         You are automatically connected when you log on. It is always drive N.

If for some reason you are not connected to the public drive, do the following:

·         Click on the Start button.

·         Right-click on the Computer icon.

·         Click on Map Network Drive on the pop-up menu.

·         In the Drive text box, choose the letter "N" for the public drive from the drop-down list.

·         To connect to the public drive: In the Folder text box, enter \\file1\data\public to connect to the public drive. Again, be sure to use backslashes (\).

·         Make sure the Reconnect at logon check box is checked and you will always be reconnected to the public drive whenever you log on to this computer in the future.

To log off (Windows 10):

·         Click on the Start button.

·         Click on the Power button.

·         Click on the Restart or Shut Down button.
