Word 2013/2016: Inserting a Page Break

Objective:

·        To learn how to insert page breaks in a Word document.

Page Breaks

A page break is a command that tells Word to stop putting text on the current page and to begin putting all subsequent text on a new page. Make sure the Show/Hide button https://p3plcpnl0895.prod.phx3.secureserver.net:2078/public_html/Word/2013/InsertingAPageBreak_files/image001.jpg is pushed in so you can see the page break. It is on the Home tab, in the Paragraph group.

When the Show/Hide button is pushed in, page breaks appear like this:

Using the keyboard

·        Place the cursor (insertion point) where you want the new page to begin.

·        Then press <ctrl> + <Enter>

Using the ribbon, method 1

·        Place the cursor (insertion point) where you want the new page to begin.

·        Click on the Insert tab.

·        In the Pages group, click on the Page Break button.

Using the ribbon, method 2

·        Place the cursor (insertion point) where you want the new page to begin.

·        Click on the Page Layout tab.

·        In the Page Setup group, click on the Breaks button.

·        From the drop-down menu, click on Page.

Removing a page break

Make sure the Show/Hide button https://p3plcpnl0895.prod.phx3.secureserver.net:2078/public_html/Word/2013/InsertingAPageBreak_files/image006.jpg is pushed in so you can see the page break. It is on the Home tab, in the Paragraph group (see above). Position the cursor to the left of the page break. It looks like this:

Press the delete key (NOT the backspace key!). The page break will be removed.

Collapsing the white space at the top and bottom of a page

To see more of your document, you can tell Word to collapse (hide) the white space at the top and bottom of each page. Simply double-click on the border between the two pages. Your cursor will turn into a two-headed arrow when you are in the correct spot.
