Word 2016: Changing Views and Zoom Settings

·         Learn how to change views and the zoom setting in Word.

Changing views

To change the view:

·         Click on the View tab.

Your five view choices are at the left end of the ribbon in the Views group:

Print Layout View. This is the view that you probably want to use 99% of the time. It shows you exactly what your document will look like when you print it.

Read Mode View. This view is useful if you are reading a long document on the computer's display. It arranges the text so you don't have to scroll – just press the PageDown key on the keyboard when you want to move on.

Web Layout View. Use this view when you are creating a page for the web (HTML).

Outline View. Use this if you are creating an outline and want to collapse/expand the items in the outline.

Draft View. This is a leftover view from older versions of Word. You don't need to use it anymore.

You can also use the view buttons on the bottom right of the Word window:

From left to right, the buttons are:

·         Reading Layout view

·         Print Layout view

·         Web Layout view

Changing the Zoom factor

Use the Zoom slider at the bottom right of the Word window (on the status bar) to adjust the size of your document.

Note that this works like a magnifying glass and does not actually change the size of the text in your document.

You can also use the ribbon to change the zoom factor.

·         Click on the View tab.

·         In the Zoom group, click on Zoom.

·         Note that you also have other options in the Zoom group.
